Lewdown Cricket Club U15's v Plymouth Peverell on Mon 22 Jun 2009 at 18.00
Lewdown Cricket Club Won 19 runs
Match report
Two strong sides played out a great game of cricket and although a good batting track, high quality bowling from both sides dominated the game. Winning the toss, Plymouth Peverell bowled well from the off with Pasi knocking over Lewdown run machine Will Hodgetts (4) in the first over. Lewdown progressed well to 23 before a fantastic one stump direct hit from point saw Fogerty stranded well out of his ground. Clearly rattled, a mix up ended with Ewen and Penrose at the same end with the ball in the fielders hand and despite the ball going to the wrong end, it was Penrose (1) who had to go. At 34 for 3, Boother and Ewen built well with Ewen, hitting some sweetly timed drives before an attempted pull saw him caught at mid-wicket for a solid 30. Jack Hatton and Boother both made 15 but the pressure of high quality bowling told and when they were both seen off by the Pasi and Pavi combination, Lewdown were quickly finished for a total of 85.
Plymouth Peverell could have been forgiven that they had done enough with the ball combined with confident fielding and catching and indeed looked to be coping well with the opening bowling of Fogerty and Williams, reaching 19 with no alarm bells ringing. Williams however was working up some genuine accurate pace which ripped out the stumps of Attis and the Pasi in a fine spell of bowling. Whilst not taking a wicket, Fogerty was building steady pressure, joining the dots at the other end. Giving away only 28 runs from the first 8 overs and 2 wickets in the bag, Plymouth looked relieved to see the change bowling come on. Nothing was to change though and Thomas Boother and Jack Hatton continued where the openers had left off, Boother taking 2 wickets in 3 overs including a workman like 17 from Mattews. Hatton bowled with economy giving away only 16 runs from his allotted 4 overs. Ewen brought himself on and showed much improved control to rip out the middle order in his spell of 3 overs, 0 maidens 3 wickets for 10 runs. Penrose contributed 1 over with his usual laser-like accuracy taking a wicket and Boother held his nerve to finish off another fine spell which left Plymouth 19 runs short of the required total.
Both sides showed fine skills and in a match that could have gone either way and should be pleased with their performances, particularly all of the bowlers. Pasi was the pick of the Plymouth Peverell fielders and Jamie Everard stood out in the field for Lewdown with many run saving stops.
