Calstock v Lewdown Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 07 May 2011 at 14.00
Lewdown Cricket Club Lost Lewdown (2pts) lose by 8 wkts
Match report
early season with a lot of players unavailable Lewdown fielded a scratch team. further an administrative error resulted in them only fielding 10 players for the first innings.
Clastock had prepared a very strange wicket given that we have had circa 6 weeks of hot weather. It was essentially rolled clay, with the top 1/2 inch damp and springy.
Unfortunately Lewdown lost the toss and were inserted. the wicket played ok, if a little bit slow and low. losing 2 wickets to consecutive balls in the 6th over dictated a period of rebuilding which was truncated by a run out in the 15th over. with 4 ducks and only two scores in double figures Lewdowns innings was complete at 61 runs. With John Mowbray taking 6 wickets for only 8 runs.
Calstock lost two wickets in response. Tom Pengelly taking a good leg side catch behind the stumps off Rhys Palmers bowling. The second wicket falling to a run out from Tom Batstone.
John Lambert hit the winning runs with a cover driven 4 that also took him to his 50.
