Lewdown Cricket Club 2nd XI v Plympton III on Sat 25 Jun 2011 at 14.00
Lewdown Cricket Club Lost by 3 wickets (4pts)
Match report
Another poor batting display saw Lewdown 2nd XI slump to their second defeat of the season.
Losing the toss (again) the home side were sent into bat on what looked to be a damp but firm wicket. Paul Daymond (8) was dismissed early after thumping 2 fours over cover. Olly Brown (35) and Mark Martyn (15) managed to put on a 75 partnership before Martyn was dismissed in the 27th over with Brown shortly after in the 30th. At 80 for 1 Lewdown looked to progress to around 140 but were bowled out for just 114 meaning the last 8 batsmen managed a mere 34 runs between them.
Plympton used the conditions to their advantage with the ball. J Lee (3-16), B.Vince (3-30) and J.Gilpin (3-19) were the pick of the bowlers.
The visitors were looking to expand on their success with the ball with their batting. S.O'Higgins (30) and D.Queen (12) put on 30 runs in just 7 overs before J.Barber (1-20) bowled Queen. S.Butler (0-16) bowled well going for just 16 off 7 overs. Wickets fell fairly frequently with A.Edmonds (4-43) bowling with good pace and aggression but they didnt fall quick enough with the visitiors reaching their target off 33 overs.
Again there were too many extras given away with 19 wides and 6 no-balls contributing towards 35 extras been given away. Skipper Olly Brown said 'Batting and bowling disciplines must inprove if we are to challenge for the league title'.
