Potterne v Lewdown Cricket Club Friendly XI on Sun 04 Jul 2010 at 13.30
Lewdown Cricket Club Won by 95 runs
Match report
Lewdown travelled to Potterne, Wiltshire in the NPower National Village Competition and ran out winners on what will be recognised as one of the best days in Lewdown Cricket Club history. After an arduous journey captain Charlie Hughes lost the toss and was asked to bat on a very good looking pitch. Once again Lewdown were indebted to their openers Kris Harris (37) and Harry Geering (26) for getting them off to an excellent with a partnership of 57. Lewdown then lost a couple of quick wickets which brought young Will Hodgetts to the crease. Will upped the scoring rate with a scintillating 41 runs including 5 sixes. When Hodgetts was out another wicket quickly followed and Lewdown found themselves on a nervous 121-5. Antoni Weeks (34) then joined his dad at the crease and they enjoyed a partnership of 58 which rallied the team. Nick Hayden (29)and Carl Weeks (42) then raced to a partnership of 52 in 5 overs to help Lewdown to a very respectable total of 244-9 in their 40 overs. Openers Phil Yeo (2-30) and Adie Edmonds (3-26) soon finished off any Potterne hopes that they might grab a win with an exceptional spell of bowling and the home side were soon reduced to 68-6. Potterne's tail did wag a little but Lewdown continued to bowl well and restricted them to a total of 149 all out, Lewdown winning by a comfortable 95 runs. On Sunday Lewdown travel to Troon in the next round of the competition and are hopeful of another great day out.
