Ashburton v Lewdown Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 24 Jul 2010 at 14.00
Lewdown Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets
Match report
Lewdown travelled to 2nd placed Ashburton expecting a good contest on their soft pitch, for the 9th time this season skipper Charlie Hughes won the toss and had no hesitation in asking Ashburton to bat.
Not for the first time, Rob Mutch took a wicket in his first over and another in his 4th, bowling partner Phil Yeo also joined the party, taking wickets in his 3rd and 5th overs and reducing Ashburton to 8-4 in the first 10 overs, there was to be no big recovery from the opposition and but for a 20 run partnership for the last wicket there was very little resistence,Lewdown bowling Ashbuton out for just 53 in 28 overs, Rob Mutch returning the fine figures of 13-7-21-6 and Phil Yeo 13-5-24-2, with Pete Cooper taking the last wicket.
With a lot og cloud around Lewdown sent in Mutch with Kris Harris to try and get the job done quickly, this approach worked with the pair scoring 30 off the first 6 overs before Mutch went LBW. Jack Skuse joined Harris and mainly watched as Harris stroked the ball effortlessly through mid wicket for 4 fours in what was to be the last over, the game was at 4.35, Lewdown winning by 9 wickets, Kris Harris ending on 32 n.o.
This was a fine performance with bat, ball and in the field and the 20 points gained now puts Lewdown 57 points ahead of 2nd placed Ashburton and while just 2 wins away from promotion complacency must not be allowed to set in.
Next week at home to Tiverton & Bickleigh.
