Match report A bitterly cold, cloudy and damp day welcomed Lewdown at Sampford Peverell and must of been a shock to Lewdown's new South African signing Robert Mutch.
With several regular 1st team players missing Lewdown felt winning the toss a little more important than usual, heads were called correctly and peverell were asked to bat first on an interesting looking pitch, Mutch was soon into his stride bowling with pace and aggression, picking up 2-20, ably backed up by Harry Geering (who was only bowling due to an injury to Ben Williams) 2-17, debutent Peter Cooper 2-6 and 2 quality run outs, and skipper Charlie Hughes 2-26. Peverell all out for 122.
Lewdown's reply got off to a shocker, with Brown, Gliddon and Mutch failing to trouble the scorers, Lewdown were up against it at 14-3. Geering (26) and Carl Weeks steadied the ship and put on 49 for the 4th wicket. Phil Yeo (18) joined Weeks and added 33 for the 5th to put Lewdown within touching distance. With good contributions from Nick Hayden and Peter Cooper, Lewdown finished the job with 15 overs to go, man of the match Carl Weeks finishing with 43 n.o to go with his 2 catches. Special mention to part-time keeper Olly Brown who did us proud behind the stumps in difficult conditions, taking 2 good catches.
Lewdown 19pts beat Halberton & Samford Peverell by 4 wickets.
