Bridestowe v Lewdown Cricket Club 20/20 on Tue 11 Aug 2009 at 18.00
Lewdown Cricket Club Won By 7 wickets
Match report
Lewdown won the Evening League Cup for the first time since 2004 with a convincing 7 wicket win over local rivals Bridestowe. Captain Carl Weeks happily lost the toss and Lewdown were asked to field first. As it turned out the Lewdown attack bowled exceptionally well and restricted Bridestowe to such an extent that they were only able to hit 7 fours in their completed innings with a short boundary to one side. Mark Jordan (5-0-32-1) and Charlie Hughes (5-0-13-1)opened up extremely which meant that the Bridestowe batsmen had to take chances against Adie Clements when he came on as first change. Adie bowled such a tight legside line that the batsmen were totally unable to accelerate and Adie finished with remarkable figures of 5-1-18-3. Mevan Porage (4-0-19-1) kept it tight at the other end and Bridestowe finished on the disappointing total of 105-6. Lewdown lost an early wicket but when Mevan Porage (37*) joined Matt Witcher (52) at the wicket they put on an excellent half-century partnership to put Lewdown in the box-seat. Matt Witcher's return to form with a superb half century was another positive that Lewdown can take from this win as the first team continues to push for promotion in the Saturday Devon League. Lewdown reached the total with three overs to spare for the loss of 3 wickets.
